C O A C H E L L A - B O O K E D

Summer music festivals are just around the corner, (Alright perhaps not exactly around the corner but I'm aloud to be optimistic on my own blog) and to say I am school-girl giddy about it would be an understatement. I officially booked my trip to the west coast for Coachella and if you haven't got a ticket I suggest you offer up your first born, or perhaps a kidney to get one.
Given my mildly obsessive personality, It will most likely take me the next two and half months to decide what I will wear, which I'm aware is sort of aggressive but is also necessary. Having said that I shall apologize in advance if I am posting summer ready get-ups seemingly early...Although I do tend to wear outfits that are fairly inappropriate for Toronto winter weather to begin with (like the one I wore today photographed here) so you may not even notice.

I changed the format of the blog so you can scroll down for earlier posts! yay!

Every piece from my outfit today was from vintage stores around toronto except the square rings which are from H&M
Lipstick is Chanel Rouge Allure

YOU WON'T BELIEVE HOW MANY CHEMICALS ARE IN YOUR PRODUCTS

So, I've been wanting to post about this for a while and I'm finally doing it. Hallelujah!

About four months ago a decided to make a bit of a lifestyle change after reading an article about chemicals in everyday products. Being a bit of a product junkie, I was intrigued by how the article basically pointed out my ignorance to the harmfulness of my everyday life. I went through the products I use the most, and was sickened by what I found. I was putting multiple carcinogens onto my skin and hair every single day. I got a little dramatic (surprise surprise) and threw every single product in the garbage right away... then I called everyone I knew and tried to convince them to do the same. (Most of whom thought I was insane)

*I'll post the list below so you can see how many of them are in the products you use*

Below are the products that I switched to, in leu of the products I disposed of ( AKA the killer products) and I'll explain to you why I am so much happier with them. There are others that are fantastic, these are just ones I decided to try.

THE NEW FACE WASH
MAIGA facial cleanser - sent to me from the heavens above, I'm sure of it.
All natural ingredients - All of them you can actually pronounce (which I think is a definite bonus)
It changed my complexion so quickly, I was shocked -- It's amazing how much your skin clears up when you stop putting chemicals, preservatives and other crap on it.. -15$ (at most natural health food stores)

THE NEW MOISTURIZER

Many of you already know about my undying love for coconut oil but I am trying a different brand this time around. Mostly because I was able to buy it in a 1.6L tub. (I know.. aggressive) That is literally how much I use it. It is raw, virgin and organic and get this... NO CHEMICALS. It is so much better for your skin than store bought moisturizers and lasts an extremely long time. I pretty much marinate in it from head to toe... $26.99

THE NEW BODY WASH

OK, so this is what I switched out for body wash. It is PURE GLYCERINE SOAP and it is made by The Soap Works. The good thing about glycerine soap is that it holds in a ton of moisture to your skin. I will probably try something different after this is finished, as there are a few things I don't LOVE about it, but it's completely natural and significantly reduces your carbon footprint which is great. $12.99

I plan on trying as many natural products as possible, so I will keep you posted on what I think of them. That way you guys will know the deal.

BELOW IS A LIST OF THE CRAP YOU WILL FIND IN YOUR PRODUCTS:

  1. DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine
  2. Phthatates and Parabens
  3. FD&C color pigments
  4. Fragrance
  5. Imidazolidinyl urea & DMDM Hydantoin
  6. Quaternium - 15
  7. Isopropyl Alcohol
  8. Mineral Oil (Baby oil is made from pure mineral oil and is horrible for your baby's skin)
  9. PEG (Polyethylene Glycol)
  10. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate
  11. Talc
  12. Triclosan
  13. Petrolatum

TODAY I ACCIDENTLY FOUND HEAVEN...

I like to think of myself as a bit of a seasoned "thrifter" therefore, I always get extremely excited when I stumble across a vintage store I hadn't known existed. Well, let me tell you, this happened today, and to say I got giddy about it would be pretty much the understatement of the week.

It was the cutest little place and I decided that you all should know about it right away.

*warning I went a bit picture crazy but I wanted you to really get how wonderful the vibe was in here. I'm all about good vibes, and this place had them*

ODD FINDS GENERAL STORE

It's a consignment store and the whole place supports about 7 different peoples creative endeavors. Some jewelry makers, some photographers, some vintage treasure hunters and one girl named Dee who has a passion for Tea.

This is one of the tops I ended up buying. It's sort of an oversized black tank made from really beautiful material. And it was only friggen 15 bucks.!! Which leads me to my next point EVERYTHING was well priced. It was a vintage heaven in that place. And to boot, I got a discount on tea because I bought clothes. I seriously don't know if it gets any better than that... if you know of anything better than that let me know. Because I know nothing better.

 Dee's Tea

Ya... those are soy candles in mason jars...

Only the best two sugar options.

There was everything from shoes, to bags, to jewelry, to home accessories. It was definitely the best part of my day today. If you want to go check it out it's located on Bloor street between Dufferin and Lansdown.

2 BEST FRIENDS...

Ugh I'm just extremely obsessed with motorcycle jackets right now. I literally feel that they are the ultimate mix of sexy with an edge. On a bit of a separate note, I can't explain to you how many times I have dragged people through Yorkdale mall searching for hours for the perfect oversized plaid scarf. What do these two pieces of perfection have to do with each other??? EVERYTHING. ugh literally everything. Put these two pieces on together and never take them off. I promise you, you wont be upset you did.

N Y G A R D S L I M S

This post is SOOO long over due, but better late than never right? I was sent these pants from designer Peter Nygard, and had the chance to chat with him on the phone about their design. They are called the Nygard Slims and essentially they are designed to hold everything in. (which they do.. seriously... I could have downed a 6-pack of beer in these babies and you would have no idea.) But the best thing about them is that 1$ from every pair sold was donated to breast cancer research during breast cancer awareness month, and I mean.... what's better than that right? right.

I paired them with a Club Monica crop top (which is sort of a bra but I shall call it a crop top for the purposes of this post) and an All Saints leather jacket. I went for sort of a "Sandy from Grease" sort of feel with them.

GETTING VAMPY FOR 2014

Before about a month ago the word Bordeaux held one meaning for me, and that was my beverage of choice. As of late my lips have pretty much been stained the color of red wine.. (For reasons besides me being a lush.) It's called Studded Kiss, it's made by M.A.C and it is my newest all-time best friend.

Lipstick: M.A.C studded kiss, Zara dress, Kensington Market sunnies
